Being in a new place seems to be good for the brain. The monotony of your current situation needs to be broken up now and again to add a bit of spice to your life. Many of us never get the opportunity to do this and I am overly grateful for my first ‘proper’ trip to Amsterdam and the first holiday away with the other half. Weed and prostitution covered up with stories of visits to the Tulip and Van Gough museum, that’s what Amsterdam is known for. It was embarrassing to tell people where I was going on holiday because instantly the seedy nature of their brains went to fucking whores and taking drugs. Continue reading The Magic of Amsterdam
I am thirty two years old and cannot see when I’m ever going to be able to buy a house. Growing up, buying a house is a big part of the expected life path of the western world. Get educated, find a career, find love, get married, buy a car, have kids, buy a house then retire and die. The economy loves that series of events because it keeps you in a perpetual state of spending. Continue reading My house dreams and nightmares
Coming off the back of the recent Al Iaquinta Vs Donald Cerrone fight in the UFC, one of the things I’ve noticed about the fight culture now is the explicit focus on money. I understand that money is important to entertainers who showcase a craft, and MMA fighters have to make a living, however the constant calling out of Connor McGregor in the UFC is verging on sickening. Connor McGregor hasn’t fought since October 2018 when he lost to unbeaten grappling monster Khabib. McGregor has hinted at coming back time and time again, toying with the emotions of fighters and fans, but never committing to a fight amidst the rumours flying around online. Continue reading Big money fights only
Maybe it was a dream. After my first 1, chilling, by myself too this time which was good, I usually have 5, 6, even 7 but this time it only has a couple. Was it even worth it? I was told no, but, Fuck Yeah! The experience doesn’t last as long, maybe 2-3 hours. It’s not as intense obviously but it’s enough to get you that wavey feeling. The perspective was there, but not as shootingly fast. I would be outside of m body but exiting at a slow jogging space as opposed to Ferrari speed.
I started the day focused, listening to my Fight 1 playlist trying to get myself pumped up on the bus. The streets were empty, and again it really did feel like I was alone. I’ve felt like this whilst training sometimes too, the whole process of preparing for a fight is at times very isolating, but when I stepped in the ring I understood why. It’s just you and your opponent, it felt like there was definitely no turning back from the moment I took the first step over the threshold and left my house. Game Time! I appreciate all forms of martial arts and I’ve been training Muay Thai for a couple of years now. My appreciation spilled over into eagerness whilst working out at my local gym one day I was asked to join a mixed martial arts class for a free session. I thought this was my chance to add to my self defence repertoire so jumped at the chance. Continue reading Too close for comfort
An affair isn’t just an affair according to the show affair. I’ve weirdly enjoyed this dark romantic tv series with Dominic West (Noah) and Ruth Wilson (Alison) as the central characters, juggling infidelity with self identity crisis’s . West’s character is married with four kids and meets Wilsons character on a family holiday break. Wilson’s character struggles with self doubt and tragedy. He’s a writer, she’s a waitress and they fell in love. Continue reading The Affair – review (Spoilers)
An ode to the misogynistic past of global society. How we have treated women in the past is abhorrent, and the handmaids tail is a unrelenting reminder of the gender split mindset of our world which is displayed in this amazing dystopian tv series. The show explores a world where fertility rates drop significantly across America resulting in babies and fertile women becoming a precious commodity. As this happens a deeply disturbing ideology sets in which gains political traction where all the fertile women are to be rounded up for breeding purposes. Continue reading The Handmaids Tale – Review and Spoilers
I’ve been given a date for my first Muay Thai interclub. I have 5/6 weeks and currently weigh 84kg which is way too heavy to fight. I’m not sure how much weight I can lose in the time but I will try for 3-5kg and take it from there. I’m not going to eat bread, 1 bar of dark chocolate a week, eat less meat, drink more water, take some bitters and try and run 3-4 days a week as well as x4 minimum Muay Thai training. I’m pretty excited because this has been something I’ve been thinking about for months. Continue reading My first Muay Thai Interclub
I recently listened to a video on the Vox channel on Youtube called ‘rappers deconstructed: the best rhymers of all time’. It was interesting to see such a mechanical approach to the analysis of hip hop music. The narrator described her appreciation for the artist MF Doom and started breaking down the lyrics of his songs. I was impressed by the intellectual acuity showcased in his rhymes as I’ve tried to listen to his music a couple of times and I’ve never liked it.
