Police abusing their power and killing unarmed people is a terrible thing the people in the US have to deal with all too often. I’m not sure why it’s become a UK issue because it’s not a UK problem. Increased awareness about the UK police deaths over the years may seem to have fallen on deaf ears with a majority of the cases determined justified in the eyes of the law. There has certainly been less incidents of seemingly unlawful killings by the police over the last few years, showing there has been some change, and race definitely hasn’t been a factor because some of the most questionable situations have involved white victims. Unarmed Sean Fitzgerald being shot in the back in January of 2019, caught fleeing the scene was particularly disturbing, but generally the lack of information along with minimal journalistic investigation have made it difficult to get a clear understanding of what is going on. Weapons (guns, knives, axes), violence and mental health have been significant factors in these UK police related deaths, the officers have had to make quick decisions in high pressured situations resulting in fatalities and often saving another life.Continue reading Police Brutality in the uk
The HM Treasury attempted to freeze all the assets of Icelandic Landsbanki bank in the UK. The order was approved by both Houses of Parliament on the 28th of October 2008. Landsbanki bank was placed into receivership in Iceland as the bank was one of the first of the global crisis to reach the brink of collapse. When this happened the powers that be in the UK tried to get Iceland to put the burden of debt from this bank onto the Icelandic public. The prime minister of Iceland at the time refused and Landsbanki bank was put on the same list as Al qaeda and the Taliban. Continue reading Landsbanki Freezing Order 2008
Skepta aka Joseph Junior Adenuga born in 1982 is an MC from Tottenham North London. He started his musical career as a DJ and began to develop his own sound as part of the roll deep crew with his brother JME. Grime was still underground at this stage and a lot of the music and MC’s sounded the same. Skepta didn’t really stand out at this point as Wiley, Kano and Dizzee Rascal became the evolving faces of the scene. Skepta branched out to form Boy Better Know which was a truly independent record label. From here Skepta’s originality and audible proficiency was showcased on a variety of singles, mix-tapes and clashes. The sound remained within genre, with typical grime beats and a jabbing flow. Listen to ‘Microphone champion’ and you can see the potential of the artist swallowed up by what the status-quo expected from a grime artists at the time. This is why the grime scene stayed stagnant for so long.
The most common age for young girls to start wearing make up in this country is 11yrs old. It seems that society these days has an unhealthy obsession with beauty and appearance. We are bombarded on a daily basis by airbrushed images of models on the TV, radio, magazines & newspapers so I can understand why this creates a warped perception of beauty in many people’s minds. Children exposed to this pick up the insecure vibration levels and jump on the slap stick band wagon to clown looking town. Now there’s nothing wrong with a little make up, but imagine a world where looking like Katie Price isn’t what young girls aspire to. Imagine picking up a magazine and seeing Kelly Brook embracing the beauty of her human flaws.
